Urbanite Spring/Summer 2010 Collection

Inspiration can really come from literally everywhere, whether its your neighbor’s dog or just a fascinating  story you read before, they come to you in the weirdest way. For our Spring/ Summer collection , We happen to find inspiration in diverse  places to design  this collection and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

WAR/CONFLICT

Since 9/11 it seems like our country been going downhill for so many reasons, one of them is our economy and the main subjects that stays on every American mind: Iraq and Afghanistan. From our country’s grimiest urban neighborhood to the other side of the planet, It’s nearly impossible to not have gun smoke as a relevant topic if America is the subject. Over the past 3-4 years the land of opportunity had millions of people sitting at home unemployed for a reason or another, Including people you personally know.

COAST to COAST

New York and California are the most  diverse states  in our country for various reasons, From the Formation of America’s biggest street gangs to the being the center of the media world just to name a few. City’s like NYC, Los Angeles and SF are amongst the most diverse and cultural places in the world. These cities define the true essence of the urban life, They forced their habitants be natural born leaders and work for everything they want to achieve .For some reason whenever you meet an individual from these two states we usually let you know where we from before our name. Such pride can’t be bought.

BUGSY

Around the same time that Al Capone was building his empire in Chicago, a gangster by the name  Benjamin Siegel also known as “Bugsy”was one of the most talked about men in the gangster world. Bugsy was born in Brooklyn NY but spent most of his time in the Lower East Side. At a young age he  joined a gang on the Lower East Side (Manhattan) and committed numerous numbers of thefts. In 1939 Bugsy moved to California where he was later tried for a murder, during the trial the newspaper revealed his hated nickname “Bugsy” which means “crazy” and wouldn’t be called that to his face. In 1946 He gained absolute control over the Flamingo hotel project, which he opened later the same year even though the project was unfinished due to his staggering spending spree to make the hotel fancy. By 1991 his 6 million dollar dream of Las Vegas had generated revenues of over $100 billion.  Bugsy was also known as the smoothest killer because he would have normal conversations with his victims  before killing them (which Cormega refers to in Affirmative action around 1:30). Less than a year later on June 20 1947 while reading the LA Times  in his  Bervelly Hill home, Bugsy was hit many times through his window including two shots in the head. No one was charged for the murder and the crime remains officially unsolved.
